Maybe efficiency improves with soft iron or laminations, but I believe if we get the right formula, even average steel can be used.

I think the secret is how the magnetic fields interact.

I have extensively tried materials 
Relative permeability must be 10 000 or more 
Buforn was purposely misleading all….
It doesn’t matter how many lines you will quote from patent just try it and measure magnetic field on your cores - you will see results
