Google Sandbox

The Google sandbox is a place where you wait.  It is like being on probation if you are a new website.  The idea behind the Google sandbox is to protect the quality of the search experience for the user by making the practice of farming fake sites for the purpose of creating back links to the target site ineffective.  "Sandbox" and "aging delay" are often used interchangeably by SEO experts, and they refer to the process where Google delays giving you a search results status until a certain amount of time has elapsed.   Aging delay is easy to understand – sites are “delayed” until they "mature".  Google is doing this because it feels that too many brand new sites are rising up much too quickly in Page Rank.  Such sites are obtaining back links much to quickly to be considered "natural"; and therefore they end up in the sandbox.

Mass Link Building

Obtaining links in bulk by either participating in some sort of link trading scheme or by buying large quantities of text links from other sites solely to garner some "juice" that could translate into PageRank value is not a methodology that is going to pay off.  Google is going to put you, or keep you in the sandbox.  Why?  Because it goes against the concept that holds that the natural process of linking to a site was done because it was seen as a valuable resource.  The Google sandbox is based upon the idea that sites creating the perception of shaky, flaky optimization tactics should take longer to rank well.  The way to achieve high rankings is to acquire keyword optimized in-bound links, and that takes time.  Google knows that, and it has a way of keeping folks who like to accelerate the process by gaming the system at bay.

To get around this issue consider having a budget for Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising when it is time to launch if you can.  Otherwise focus on the other search engines until the probationary period (6-9 months) has expired.
