April 27 is the national bring your kids to work day. It's nice from time to time to show your children what you do for a living and what to expect when they grow up to be working adults but in this day and age, many employers do not allow their workers to bring their children because of safety hazards and liability issues.
If you do happen to work at a workplace which does allow you to bring your children, this would be a perfect day for you to demonstrate to your children how to be a responsible adult. Most times children love to see their parents at work and discover what they do. Just make sure to keep your kids out of trouble especially if dangerous situations are present at your workplace.
It is understandable for some companies not to allow children to be with their parents during work especially if work duties include driving company vehicles, operating dangerous machinery, handling toxic chemicals, or have direct customer contact. But other office jobs where the employee is required to stay in an office all day may be a good opportunity to share your work experiences with your children. Obviously we don't want to bring our children to watch us fight fires because our children's safety is what's most important.
Allowing your children to experience your work environment can be a rewarding experience for both you and your children. Not only will your children share in your workday but you will also have the chance to introduce your children to your work colleagues. Your children will probably brag to their friends about the wonderful day they had when they were at work with you.
Just remember if you do bring your children to work they shouldn't ignored and you should pack a lunch as well as some other occupying activities such as books, puzzles, or quiet games.
