She is not a nutritionist, she's just hungry.

She lost 25 pounds about eight years ago by learning how to eat right, and then in 2003 she started sending her friends low-fat recipes and tips for finding healthful but realistic foods in the mainstream supermarkets.  She then turned herself into a cartoon character on the Internet she called "Hungry Girl".  Now she has almost 700,000 subscribers to her daily Hungry Girl e-mails, and employs a staff of nine people.

Who is she?  She's just a hungry girl obsessed with food, who like many other yo-yo dieters, struggled to lose the same 15 pounds for much of her life.  But she did it, and is here to share her secrets with you.

"I know exactly what people will like," says Lisa Lillien. "I just know.  I'm that way.  When I taste something, I can say, 'You know what? I like it okay, but only 20 percent of the people will like it,' or 'If I really like it, then 99 percent of people will like it, too."  She is absolutely sure of her taste buds and absolutely skeptical of nutritional labels.  She lost 25 pounds by changing her lifestyle, and when she did it she realized that she had to stick with it.  These changes morphed into  hungrygirl.com and her book:  "Hungry Girl: Recipes and Survival Strategies for Guilt-Free Eating in the Real World" (St. Martin's Griffin Press).

Last year, the book sold more than 200,000 copies - more than the two new cookbooks written by "30-Minute Meals" queen Rachael Ray.  Lillien's latest book, "Hungry Girl 200 Under 200: 200 Recipes Under 200 Calories," went to No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list on May 3rd.

No one wants to live in a world without pizza, chips, chocolate, cookies and ice cream, and now thanks to Hungry Girl, you don't have to.  Fans of the calorie-counting super star can meet her in person at 7 p.m. May 11 at the Barnes & Noble in El Cerrito, California.  For details, call the store at 510-524-0087.
