Mavericks of the angling world have spent plenty of money on their shiny ornamental lures and live squirming bait, but you don't have to. Baits can be found on the counter in the corner candy store. People who want to catch fish and help the environment can use candy gummi worms. Much like flies, lures and other baits they are very colorful. They look like a worm, they are worm-shaped and they jiggle in the water just like a real worm.
A Gummi worm (sometimes spelled gummy worm) is a small, rubbery-textured candy. The candies are roughly two inches long and shaped in the form of worms. The gummi worm is one of many gummies which include the original gummi bear. These distinctive and popular gelatin based candies come in a variety of colors.
This post was found recently on a sport fisherman's websire forum. Enjoy the story:
"One day I paddled out to where they were fishing and started fishing close by to them. I started talking to Ray and stated that I had lived Down East for nearly ten years before anyone would give me a hint about where to catch trout. Ray replied in his Cedar Island brogue "You're lucky most folks have to live here three generations before we tell them anything". All the time they were pulling in trout one after the other. After inflating my ego I thought I might as well ask the other forbidden question, "Whatcha catching em on"? Without hesitation he replied," GUMMY WORMS. '' Sure enough I looked closer and they where using GUMMY WORMS on a Carolina Rig."
