Our favorite Grade B movies are often quasi-scientific, visionary and quite imaginative.  They feature the best heroes and bad guys who could be aliens from  distant planets.  The plots, such as they are bring us impossible quests, improbable settings, fantastic places, great dark and shadowy villains, futuristic technology, unknowable forces, and really extraordinary monsters either created by mad scientists or by nuclear accident.  They are sometimes an offshoot of our fantasies, or they share some similarities with action and adventure films from the past.  Science fiction often expresses the true potential of technology.  The potential to destroy humankind and create great things.  Our favorite horror films endear us to the past when paleo technology and crude alien life forms rise up and become malevolent, as in the "Atomic Age" of sci-fi films in the 1950s.

Horror movies are made to frighten us and to invoke our hidden worst fears, often in the most terrifying ways.  All the while captivating and entertaining us at the same time in a nail biting experience.  Horror films feature a wide range of styles, from the earliest and creepiest silent Nosferatu classic, to today's CGI monsters and sick and deranged humans.  They are often combined with science fiction plots when the menace or monster is related to a corruption of technology, or when Earth is threatened by aliens (or bad environmental policy).  The fantasy and supernatural films are not usually synonymous with the horror genre.  There are really many sub-genres of horror:  there's your slasher, teen terror, serial killer, satanic, vampire based, and classic Frankenstein style.

The imdb movie data base is the place to be when you have a hankering to revisit your old favorites or to catch up on something that you missed.  B movies will B with us forever.
