The point of this reality-based cooking show is to be the best overall chef at the end of the season. The aspiring chefs enter Hells Kitchen in hopes to be the season winner which will land them their own restaurant. Every week Chef Ramsey will eliminate one contestant until the top two contestants are left. Then during the last episode of the season, the two finalists face off and one ultimate winner is chosen.
Perhaps one of the most addictive characteristics of Hells Kitchen is Chef Ramsey's attitude. Ramsey holds little regard for personal feelings and has no problems or regrets belittle contestants for mistakes whether they are at fault or not. Crying, shouting, and social uproar is common as this reality show is truly cutthroat.
Hells kitchen's weekly episodes usually start with a challenge. The contestants must compete as teams in various tasks, which Chef Ramsey determines the winning team. The losing team has to suffer the consequences of losing the challenge which usually require kitchen preparations, cleaning, and other tedious work, while the winning team is rewarded with trips and other various pleasurable offerings.
Each episode of Hells Kitchen usually includes a dinner service. During the Hells Kitchen dinner service, the two teams are required to cook and fill all the orders of the restaurant. Mistakes happen often and emotions run high as Chef Ramsey scolds the aspiring cooks with foul language. Most of the beginning episodes result in the Hells Kitchen restaurant being closed down before all the meals are served. Towards the end of this season, the contestants cooking skills improve and more dinner services are completed.
After each dinner service is over, Chef Ramsey instructs team members to elect the weakest people. The weakest selections are put up onto the chopping block and given a last chance to plead her case in front of Chef Ramsey. Ultimately, Chef Ramsey drops the hammer and eliminates one contestant.
Although the rundown of this show sounds simple and mediocre, it is Chef Ramsey's attitude and the contestants reactions which make this show worth watching.
