There are loads of reports and manuals that instruct internet marketers to scrounge traffic from social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook, but rarely do these manuals convey the true difficulties in this type of marketing.

Granted, social networking sites can drive a lot of traffic but one needs to ask them self: Is it worth the efforts? Social networking sites do not offer instant floods of traffic as many claim. Actually, the owners of these social networking sites hate to see their creations being abused by sneaky marketers. The owners will do anything they have to to stop you from stealing their traffic and your gig will not last too long. Most social networking sites become a spam haven in a matter of months. This makes a mockery of the website and the validity of the social networking marketing subject diminishes every time a new marketer tries to find the easy road to success.

Marketing success can be had with social networking, but it should be done the right way. The successful method involves connecting with real people and offering valuable advice. If you are planning on utilizing social networking sites to gain traffic, you should stay away from automated comment programs and other automation devices with high claims. Building credibility can only be done by being yourself.

The problem is it takes a lot of hard work to establish a large group of friends at a place like Myspace. To do it in a legit manner, you must comment on other blogs, update your own blog daily, scour the website for people to connect with, reply to messages, and have some valuable information to share. This takes time and time is money.

In summary, the gains of social networking may not be worth the time, but there is certainly opportunity to succeed if you are willing to spend the time.
