So you want to make money on the internet, but you are a little unclear on the process. This article may have exactly what you are looking for to get started. I am going to break down the steps of article marketing in a simple way, and focus on the details of what a landing page actually is.

In the Eyes Of A Surfer

Your goal is to attract the surfer to your webpage and ultimately convince him to buy a product. When you successfully accomplish that, you earn a commission. To fully understand the steps in online marketing, lets use the viewpoint of an average internet surfer.

When the average web-surfer strolls the net, they usually do not have the intentions of buying anything right away. People want content and free information. So this average web-surfer uses Google and researches keywords which bring up a listing of webpage results. One of these results happens to be your webpage and the surfer visits your webpage to see what you have to offer. While the web surfer is on your webpage, he becomes enthralled with the subject matter and his desires are soaring.  While he reads your webpage, he comes accross a link to another website that promises results in the exact subject matter that he is looking for. The surfer then follows your affiliate link to a sales page. The sales pages is a hook, line, and sinker and convinces the surfer to whip out his credit card and make a purchase. Viola! You just made a commission.

The Landing Page

In the scenario above, you referred a web surfer to a product which ultimately made you a commission. The driving backbone of the sale was your webpage which is referred as a "Landing Page". In defintion, a landing page is a webpage specifically written to give a surfer what they are looking for with the prime intention of sending them to a sales page to close the deal.

Power Is In The Writing

A landing page should have three main purposes. First, the page should be designed with proper keywords to attract a web surfer. Second, the page must offer valuable content that will entice the surfer to want to take the next step. And finally, a landing page should have your affiliate link that is directly related to the subject matter and a call to action. A call to action is advice on what the reader should do next. for instance, on the bottom of a landing page, I can write something like this: "To Take Advantage of This, Click Here."  The surfer should be warmed up and excited to continue on to your affiliate link.

Conclusion

A landing page is a major aspect of online marketing, but only one aspect. A landing page must be worthy of reading and be tailored in a fashion to convince the reader to continue to the product page. But remember, no one will visit a landing page unless they can find it. Along with proper landing pages comes proper keyword selection, traffic building, search engine selection, and promotion.

Hopefully this article cleared up some misconceptions about basic marketing strategies and landing pages. I encourage everyone who is interested in generating an online income to read all they can about proper landing pages and website promotion.
